NDIS Positive Behaviour Support for Meaningful Change

Person-centred, evidence-based support to understand behaviours of concern, develop practical strategies and improve quality of life for participants, families and carers.

Our Positive Behaviour Support Services

Individualised Support Built Around the Person

Our Behaviour Support Practitioners provide assessment, planning, implementation and ongoing support based on each participant’s individual circumstances.

Functional Behaviour Assessment

We assess behaviours of concern to better understand what may be contributing to them and the purpose they serve. This includes considering the person's needs, communication, environment, relationships and circumstances across relevant settings.

Behaviour Support Plans

Following assessment, our practitioners develop individualised Behaviour Support Plans with practical, evidence-based strategies. Plans are designed to reduce behaviours of concern, build positive alternatives and provide clear guidance for the people supporting the participant.

Behaviour Support Training

We work with families, carers, support workers and other people involved in the participant's life to help them understand and consistently implement recommended strategies.

Restrictive Practice Reduction

Our practitioners are committed to reducing and eliminating restrictive practices wherever possible. We focus on proactive strategies, positive alternatives and appropriate supports that promote the participant's safety, dignity, choice and quality of life.

Ongoing Behaviour Support

Positive change often requires ongoing collaboration. Our practitioners can review strategies, monitor progress and adjust Behaviour Support Plans as the participant's circumstances, environment and needs change.

Positive Behaviour Support at BePositive

Understanding Behaviour, Supporting Better Outcomes

At BePositive Therapy, our Behaviour Support Practitioners are passionate about improving the lives of participants and the people who support them. We take the time to understand the person, their environment and the reasons behind behaviours of concern before developing practical strategies for positive change.

Our approach focuses on improving quality of life while reducing behaviours of concern and the use of restrictive practices wherever possible. We work collaboratively with participants, families, carers and support teams to develop strategies that are practical, respectful and appropriate for everyday environments.

Working Together With Families and Support Teams

Collaboration Is an Important Part of Change

We recognise that participants, families and carers bring valuable knowledge and experience. Our practitioners listen to the people who know the participant best and involve them throughout the assessment, planning and implementation process.

We can also collaborate with support workers, educators, allied health professionals and other members of the participant’s support network. This helps create a more consistent approach and ensures strategies can be understood and applied across relevant environments.

Who We Support

Behaviour Support Across Different Needs and Environments

Our Behaviour Support Team works with participants with a range of disabilities and support needs, including people with mental health diagnoses, acquired brain injuries, intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder.

Assessment and support can consider the different environments that are important in the participant’s life, including:

  • Family homes
  • Schools and education settings
  • Supported living environments
  • Care facilities
  • Workplaces
  • Community settings

Understanding what happens across these environments helps our practitioners develop strategies that are relevant to everyday life rather than focusing on behaviour in isolation.

Our Approach

Our Approach to Positive Behaviour Support

Understand the Behaviour

We look beyond the behaviour itself to understand what may be influencing or contributing to it.

Develop Practical Strategies

Recommendations are designed to be realistic, individualised and suitable for the participant's everyday environments.

Promote Positive Change

We focus on building positive alternatives, improving participation and supporting a better quality of life.

Reduce Restrictive Practices

Our practitioners work towards reducing restrictive practices through proactive, evidence-based and person-centred strategies.

Positive Behaviour Support FAQs

What is Positive Behaviour Support?

Positive Behaviour Support is an evidence-based approach that seeks to understand why behaviours of concern occur and develop strategies that improve quality of life. The focus is on addressing underlying needs and building positive alternatives rather than simply responding to the behaviour.

A Functional Behaviour Assessment examines behaviours of concern and the circumstances surrounding them. The practitioner considers factors such as communication, environment, triggers, relationships and unmet needs to better understand why the behaviour may be occurring.

A Behaviour Support Plan outlines individualised strategies for supporting the participant. It may include proactive strategies, ways to respond to behaviours of concern, positive replacement behaviours and guidance for families, carers and support workers.
